This birch tree is on the bank of our pond. Birch trees shed a layer of bark each year. It’s excellent for use in crafts and fire building. Birds sometimes shred the papery bark to use in their nests. You shouldn’t peel live bark but it’s alright to use what you find on the ground.
Birch bark is used in a lot of ways. You might be surprised.
