Thursday!

This week has gone by quickly. I spent most of the morning outside. I’m a little restless due to not having hundreds of wreaths to make. Rather than face the dreaded treadmill I found some heavier duty work to do. I moved all of the dry cedar from the drive way (long and wide, often used as a work area in addition to parking) to the back porch. I split a half bushel basket full of kindling and stacked the rest. There were so logs by the rabbitry that didn’t get put in and stacked so I brought those up too. They’re in the wheelbarrow waiting for me to either tarp or put on the porch. The usual chores were done of course, then I covered the last two windows in the hen house.

Cathy’s coming tomorrow to get a dozen ducks. I’m thrilled! I’ll catch them early in the morning before I let the rest out. They’re going to go into lobster crates. These aren’t old fashioned wooden crates nor are they lobster traps. They’re heavy duty plastic these days. Lobsters are floating in them from the time they come off the boat until they’re sold. There are slots to let water through so there’s good ventilation for the ducks.

After these ducks move to their new home I’ll move the pullets from the seedling house to the barn. They get a few days to settle in and claim it before I move the older, dominant laying hens to the barn. I wanted all of the birds in one place but I don’t think it will work. I’m going to leave the turkeys in the hen house. The poults are wanders. They’re going to get their wings clipped Saturday and not be allowed out of the pen unless I’m outside with the farmcollies to keep them where they belong.

Now that I’ve warmed up I’m going to unload the dishwasher, start a loaf of pumpernickel sourdough bread and get out a few Christmas decorations. The colossus wreath is still on my diningroom table. It’s going out to the back porch until Steve’s home and can help me hang it this weekend. I’ll vacuum the sprills and maybe paint the bathroom. I hate painting. Maybe I won’t do it.

It snowed very lightly this morning but is raining now. It’s a good day to stay by the fire and write until it’s time to take Taylor to basketball practice. I’ll drop her off and do some errands. We’re having Subways for supper so that I can be lazy and not cook.
